When I began painting about fifteen years ago, it soon became clear that abstraction was my preferred genre. Perhaps that's the logical result of a lifetime in theatre, where improvisation is an important tool.
Sam's works so often combine bright colors, motion, and whimsy. They are cheerful paintings and very much a reflection of the artist's love of abstraction and question marks. What is he saying here, we ask ourselves. I think Sam is saying, "Have fun!"
